Toronto's housing stock is mixed, and furnace failures follow the age of the equipment. Older North York bungalows still run mid-efficiency units where ignition and heat exchanger problems are common. Newer Vaughan and Richmond Hill builds run high-efficiency condensing furnaces, where it's usually pressure switches, condensate drains or control boards.
No heat at all — Thermostat, ignition, gas supply or a tripped safety. We diagnose before we quote parts.
Runs then shuts off — Usually a dirty filter, a failing flame sensor, or an oversized unit. We try the cheapest fix first.
Blower runs but no warm air — Ignition or gas valve.
Banging, squealing or rumbling — Blower motor bearings, delayed ignition, or ductwork. Delayed ignition is a safety issue. Call, don't wait.
Some rooms cold, others fine — Often ductwork rather than the furnace — undersized runs, poor balancing, or returns in the wrong place. We test airflow and fix the ductwork rather than assuming a bigger furnace will solve it. Sometimes the cheapest improvement isn't new equipment at all.
Pilot won't stay lit — Thermocouple or flame sensor on older units.
Water pooling around the furnace — Condensate drain on a high-efficiency unit. Simple fix, but it will damage the unit if ignored.
Every gas appliance is worked on by a licensed, TSSA-registered technician.

When Repair Beats Replacement
We'll give you the honest version. A furnace under 12 years with a failed part is usually worth repairing. Past 18 years, with a heat exchanger issue or a second major failure in two seasons, replacement is the better spend.
Signs it's time to replace:
A cracked heat exchanger — this is a safety issue and we will not patch it
Repairs approaching a third of replacement cost
Rising gas bills with no other explanation
Multiple failures in one heating season

If replacement is the right call, we size the unit to your home's actual heat loss — not a rule of thumb, and not the biggest unit we can sell you.
An oversized furnace short cycles, costs more upfront, wears out faster and heats less evenly. It's the most common installation mistake in this trade.

Every install is quoted after we've seen the house. A condo and a detached home in Willowdale are different jobs, and a price quoted over the phone without seeing your ductwork, venting and gas supply isn't a real price.
Humidifiers & Air Quality
Both of these mount on your furnace, and both are cheapest to install while we're already there for other work.
Whole-home humidifiers
Toronto winters are dry enough to crack hardwood, split trim and leave everyone with a sore throat by February. A furnace-mounted humidifier fixes it across the whole house — better than three portable units you have to refill. We install, service and change the pads annually.
Air purifiers and filtration
Furnace-mounted UV systems and high-efficiency media filtration, for allergies, pets, or anyone in the house who's sensitive to dust.
Worth being straight about: filtration helps with dust, dander and pollen. It won't fix a mould problem or a ventilation problem — if that's what you've got, we'll tell you and point you at what actually will.
If we're already installing or servicing your furnace, adding either one is a fraction of what it costs as a separate visit.

Commercial heating is quoted per site. Every building is different — your equipment, your hours, roof or mechanical room access, and how much downtime you can afford all change the job.
Call and describe the building. We'll tell you straight whether it's a fit, and if it's outside what we're set up for we'll say so rather than take it on and learn the hard way.
